Pakistan's unusual delicacies

The restaurant sign above reads as follows:
  • brain masala = spicy fried brains (should be the stable food for everybody)
  • takatak = mishmash (no idea of what, but I am sure it includes kapooray [see below])
  • gurdey = kidneys (seems that kidney stones would be a side order)
  • kapooray = testicles (only small or goat testicles to avoid gluttony)

Towing food service

CooCo's den in Lahore has its kitchen on the street and all food is being towed to the rooftop where the restaurant is located (see above).

Check out the history of CooCo’s and enjoy the splendid view from the rooftop terrace. The Badshahi mosque is shown on the photo below but for the Sikh temple, the Lahore fort and the walled city you better travel to this magnificent city.

Photos from my 27th visit to CooCo’s in July 2007.

See also the view from 'Fort view' which is just a few houses away from CooCo's.

Colonial life in Lahore

Lahore still has many remnants from its British colonial past. Many of the former British officer residences are more than a hundred years old. Most are not in a good shape, but some are. For a few colonial life survived in the city of Lahore. Too bad that such treasures are mostly hidden behind big walls.

One Thousand and One and a half Nights

The picture above is showing part of the view you get when eating at ‘Fort View’ one of Lahore’s old city restaurants overlooking Badshahi Mosque (or Badshahi Masjid). In the real world you would have seen not only the Badshahi Mosque (as pictured above) but also the Sikh temple and the Mughal Fort. Even a wide angle wouldn’t have gotten it all....

The view is stunning, the food is good (not great, for that you better go to Gulberg or other parts in town) but neither beer nor wine are served 'in the open' in this Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Life is Good: 5 Star Deluxe Hotel in Pakistan

What else do you need? You pay between $200 or even $300 (actually for the same room depending on the rate you get) and you really get THE view. BTW, the water is not free either.
