Feeling richer than Bill Gates

Now I know why too much money doesn't make people happier.

For the record, Bill Gates never reached the one trillion dollar mark, notwithstanding the 100 trillion dollars I own.

long, long fishing net

I don't know if it's true but sources report that on 28 August 1986 the fishing trawler M/S Flomann from Hareide in Norway caught 2,471 tonnes of fish in a single throw of a purse seine-net. This many fish were not counted individually, but an estimate made at the time suggests there were more than 120 million fish in this single catch.

BTW, 2,471 tonnes would make 45 big whale sharks...

The good news: Message of hope?

'Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales advised journalists to make Jesus Christ a model in information dissemination, giving more time and space for good news rather than obsessing on evil.'

Jeees, that's a good one!

If Jesus would have witnessed the decline of the Philippines it would have made him turn in his grave (secular view point, I guess). So, what's the good news then? Let's take population: The Philippines is one of the fastest growing nations and its population doubles every 29 years. That's great news! 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth' (Genesis 9:1).

The current population estimate is around 93 million. Take an even higher number, if more good news are needed.

China's fastest train: Progress. What progress?

The picture above is showing the maximum speed the Maglev (magnetic levitation transport or transrapid) had reached on a particular day in June 2007. More than two years ago, in February 2005 the maximum speed was exactly the same, some odd 431 km/h (see the picture below). In a city of records such as Shanghai it is remarkable not to find any progress in this field within two years time.

BTW, the race is still on: In April 2007 the French TGV broke a new record by accellerating up to 575km/h. A Japanese Maglev managed to reach some 581km/h back in 2003.
